Roger Carter brings decades of experience as both a performer and educator in the world of marching percussion. He got his start at Mission Viejo High School and went on to further develop his skills with Southern California groups like the Kingsmen and Velvet Knights.
He later marched four seasons with the Blue Devils, serving as center snare and section leader for two of those years. During his time with the corps, he earned a DCI World Championship and a High Percussion Award. Roger then spent six years on staff with the Blue Devils, contributing to three more DCI titles and two additional High Percussion Awards.
His teaching career has included work with the Crossmen, Madison Scouts, Freelancers (where he served as battery caption head and arranger from 2002–2009), Riverside City College, and James Logan High School. In 2012, he joined the Bluecoats as a snare tech and was named Percussion Caption Head the following year. Under his leadership, the corps won its first DCI title in 2016 and earned its first Fred Sanford High Percussion Award in 2022.
Roger currently teaches at Mission Viejo High School and Aliso Niguel High School, and is the snare specialist and lead instructor for Broken City Percussion. He also recently completed his Associate’s Degree in Music at Saddleback College, where he studied under Joey Sellers and Paul Johnson.
